Estimate or pro forma: which document to use? · United States

Country guidance is provided for reference. Check the official sources and the rules that apply to your business.

Choose the document for its purpose

An estimate describes proposed work and terms for the client to review. A pro forma provides commercial information before the final invoice and states its informational purpose.

An invoice records the transaction and follows applicable invoicing rules. Conversion in Quotisa is available only in supported countries and situations.

Keep the pro forma label

The pro forma PDF keeps an explicit informational notice. It does not prove payment or tax transmission and does not replace the final invoice.
